Polk State started its soccer season tonight with a 3-2 win over Warner University in Lake Wales.

The Eagles had a 3-0 lead until the Royals scored twice in the game's final three minutes.

Shinell McCalla got the Eagles on the board when she booted a ball into the net at the 31:02 mark in the first half, which ended with Polk State up 1-0.

At 40:19 in the second half, lightning forced the game to be delayed for nearly an hour.

After play resumed, Emmalee Phillips' goal at 35:10 gave the Eagles a 2-0 advantage.

Eight minutes later, Kelsey Lewis scored the Eagles' final goal, giving them a 3-0 lead.

"The team moved the ball well, and we continued to work on the things we're striving to do in practice," said Head Coach Steve Linamen.

"We had lots of opportunities offensively, which we didn't see so much in preseason, so that was definitely a high point."

Brooke McKillen had two assists, while Jada Humpheries added one.

The Eagles took 19 shots on goal.

The Eagles (1-0) travel to Melbourne on Sunday to face Southwest Illinois College at Eastern Florida State College.
