Kelsey Lewis scored three straight goals in the first half, and the Polk State Eagles went on to shut out the Trinity Baptist Eagles 7-0 today in Lakeland.

After Lewis's hat trick, Emmalee Phillips scored on an assist from Dani Ritter to make it 4-0 at the end of the first half.

Brooke McKillen put the Eagles back on the board in the second half when she scored with an assist from Cristina Gutierrez

Heather Davis's goal made it 6-0, and the Eagles ended their scoring on a Melody Smalley goal with an assist from Dani Ritter.

Goalkeepers Sarah McKinney (first half) and Elizabeth Cerilli (second half) combined on the shutout.

"We definitely feel good about the win," said Head Coach Steve Linamen.

"It gave us an opportunity for the majority of the second half to have all freshmen in. They usually lean on the leadership of the sophomores, and for them to see that they can do it by themselves was good.

"Offensively, we needed it. We needed to get some balls in the back of the net. Some of the things we've been working on they definitely improved on today."

The Eagles (2-5) face Eastern Florida (No. 1 NJCAA) on Monday at 4 p.m. on the Lakeland campus.
