Polk State's soccer team has earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for exemplary performance in the classroom as a team during the 2015-16 academic year.
"We set goals for the year during preseason, and achieving a high level of excellence in the classroom is always high on the list," said head Coach Steve Linamen.
To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.
"Not only are we proud to have 10 athletes named to the FCSAA Academic All-State team, but now to be recognized as a team by the NSCAA for our academic achievements for the 2015-16 season shows the hard work our athletes put in," said Linamen.
"Being a college athlete can be very difficult when they have to balance academics, training, games, and community service projects. We help to facilitate their academic success in our program through weekly study hall and progress reports."
