Eagles soar past St. Louis 3-1

The Polk Eagles soared to their first win of the season today, defeating St. Louis Community College 3-1 in Melbourne, Fla.

The Eagles got on the board first when Jewell Gentry-Mickelson scored in the 16th minute with an assist from Alexa Gernand.

Laura Knott put the Eagles up 2-0 with a goal in the 38th minute off an assist by Lily O'Brien.

In the 41st minute, Gernand had another assist as Kyah von Deutekom's goal gave the Eagles a 3-0 advantage 

A minute later, St. Louis scored on a penalty kick.

"We're going in the right direction," said Head Coach Steve Linamen. 

"I saw lots of positives today as well as a few areas where we need to be better. I'm proud of the team and excited to see us progress this season." 

The Eagles took 15 shots and had five goalkeeper saves.

St. Louis had 11 shots and four keeper saves.

The Eagles (1-0-1) return to action Sept. 17 when they travel to ASA College in Miami.
