Jewell Gentry-Mickelson scored in the final minute and Polk State upset Eastern Florida State College (No. 1 NJCAA) 3-2 today in Lakeland.
Madison Politis had an assist on the game-winning goal.
Gentry-Mickelson also scored Polk State's other two goals.
She gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead when she scored in the 19thminute with an assist from Kyah Van Deutekom and then increased the advantage to 2-0 with a goal in the 47thminute.
The Titans, however, rallied to a 2-2 tie, scoring in the 57thminute and the 80thminute.
"This win is kind of special because this is my first time in four years coaching here at Polk State to defeat that team, and to do it on our home field with them being number-one in the nation is fantastic," said Head Coach Steve Linamen.
Preparation and hard work played a big part in today's win, said Linamen.
"In pregame we set our outcomes and our goals for the game, and we did pretty well achieving those. We worked really hard and our players executed the game plan and multiple players stepped up.
"In the past, when we've given up two goals it's been tough to come back, so for our players to stick in it and finish like they did today is fantastic."
The Eagles had eight shots and five shots on goal. Goalkeeper Hannah Kuster made 18 saves.
Eastern Florida took 32 shots, including 17 shots on goal, and made two keeper saves.
The Eagles (3-1) return to action Saturday when they take on Daytona State College (No. 8 NJCAA) at 4 p.m. on Polk State's Lakeland campus.
