Harris and Company Spoils College of Central Florida's Home Opener

OCALA - Freshman middle blocker Stephanie Harris (Miami, FL) led Polk State with 15 kills as the Eagles overwhelmed a very good College of Central Florida team, 3-1 (26-24, 26-24, 23-25, 26-16), Wednesday night at the Central Florida Gymnasium.

The Eagles have now moved to 2-0 for the season.

Heading into the game there was a lot of excitement for College of Central Florida. They were coming off a weekend where they went a perfect 4-0 at a tournament in Jacksonville. In addition, this was their inaugural home contest for the volleyball program.

Despite all the excitement surrounding the game, the Eagles came out and displayed a great level of toughness.

Freshman DiannMarie Rivera-Romero (San Juan, Puerto Rico) added 21 kills and sophomore Chloe Boehm (Arcadia, FL) chipped in with 40 assists. Freshman Ileanuska Maldonado (Puerto Rico) provided nine digs and five aces.

Polk returns to Winter Haven for its next match, which will feature the Falcons of Florida College on Thursday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m. in non-conference action.
