Eagles Have Strong Showing in Hillsborough Tournament
TAMPA - The Polk volleyball team posted a 3-1 record this weekend at the Hillsborough Tournament in Tampa, FL. The Eagles lost to nationally ranked Miami-Dade College 3-0, then rebounded and defeated Pensacola State College 3-1 on Friday. Polk picked up two wins on Saturday, the first against State College of Florida 3-1 and the second against Lake-Sumter Community College 3-0. Polk's record is now 23-10 for the season.
In the first match, Polk fell to Miami-Dade College 20-25, 23-25, 19-25. Polk was led by Rachel Aguilar (Caracas, Venezuela) with 21 assists and six digs. Brittany Cherrington (Fort Myers, FL) had five kills and three blocks, while DiannMarie Rivera-Romero (San Juan, Puerto Rico) had seven kills and eight digs. Yaritza Santiago (Puerto Rico) added seven kills, four digs and two aces.
In the second match on Friday, Polk defeated Pensacola State College 25-17, 21-25, 25-21, 25-21. The Eagles were led by Stephanie Harris (Miami, FL) with eight kills and three blocks. Rachel Aguilar (Caracas, Venezuela) added 10 kills, 12 assists, two aces and seven digs, while Chloe Boehm (Arcadia. FL) had 14 assists and two aces. DiannMarie Rivera-Romero (San Juan, Puerto Rico) chipped in with seven kills and 13 digs.
On Saturday, Polk topped State College of Florida 19-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-16. Rachel Aguilar (Caracas, Venezuela) led the Eagles with 32 assists, 10 digs and four aces. DiannMarie Rivera-Romero (San Juan, Puerto Rico) had 17 kills, 16 digs and three aces. Yaritza Santiago (Puerto Rico) provided 15 kills and 16 digs.
In the final match, Polk defeated Lake-Sumter Community College 30-28, 25-20, 25-18. Rachel Aguilar (Caracas, Venezuela) led the Eagles with 41 assists, nine digs, and two aces. Lizmanelie Garica (Land O' Lakes, FL) had 10 kills, three blocks and three digs. DiannMarie Rivera-Romero (San Juan, Puerto Rico) had 14 kills and six digs. Ileanuska Maldonado (Puerto Rico) provided 22 digs and two assists.
The Eagles will return to action on Friday, Nov. 4, when it kicks off play at the FCSAA Volleyball Tournament with St. Petersburg at 1 p.m. in Jacksonville, FL.
