Iowa Western College Too Much for Polk at State College of Florida Tournament

BRANDENTON - DiannMarie Rivera-Romero (San Juan, Puerto Rico) blasted eight kills and 13 digs to lead Polk State College, but 8th ranked Iowa Western College walked away with a 3-0 (12-25, 23-25, 22-25) win Saturday in the State College of Florida Tournament at Hal Chasey Gymnasium.

Freshman setter Rachel Aguilar (Caracas, Venezuela) handled 16 assists for the Eagles. Kahoriz Feliz Florian (Dominican Republic) provided seven kills, two blocks and Yaritza Santiago (Puerto Rico) chipped in with four kills and 12 digs.

Freshman DiannMarie Rivera-Romero was awarded for her outstanding playing this weekend by being selected to the All-Tournament. In five matches at the Hal Chasey Gymnasium, Rivera-Romero averaged 13.6 kills per set, as well as 11.6 digs, while hitting .235.

Polk finished the tournament in second place, with a record of 2-3.

The Eagles return to action on Tue, Sept. 27, when they take on Suncoast Conference foe St. Petersburg College in the Health Center. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
