Eagles Win Two in Lake-Sumter Tournament

LEESBURG - The Polk State College volleyball team followed up a 2-0 record on Friday with another pair of victories Saturday in the Lake-Sumter Tournament. The Eagles defeated the host team, Lake-Sumter 3-2 (25-9, 18-25, 25-18, 17-25, 15-11) in the morning match. The Eagles then defeated Clearwater Christian 3-1 (24-26, 25-9, 25-11, 25-13) in its afternoon match.

In the match versus Lake-Sumter, Polk was led by Yaritza Santiago (Puerto Rico) with 15 kills and 10 digs. Stephanie Harris (Miami, FL) continued her monster weekend with 12 kills and two blocks. Rachel Aguilar (Caracas, Venezuela) led a solid game for the Eagles with three aces, five kills, 11 digs, three blocks, and 20 assists. DiannMarie Rivera-Romero (San Juan, Puerto Rico) finished with 10 kills and 17 digs.

The second match saw Ileanuska Maldonado (Puerto Rico) explode for 35 digs, which put her in the 25 dig club. Yaritza Santiago (Puerto Rico) pumped in 16 kills, 22 digs and two aces. Rachel Aguilar (Caracas, Venezuela) led the Eagles with 37 assists, while DiannMarie Rivera-Romero (San Juan, Puerto Rico) added 22 kills and 16 digs.

The Eagles will travel to Tampa, Oct. 25-29, to take part in the Hillsborough Tournament.
