Romero, Maldonado Overpower Visiting Indian River College, 3-1

WINTER HAVEN - Outside hitter DiannMarie Rivera-Romero (San Juan, Puerto Rico) provided a double-double, while freshman Ileanuska Maldonado (Puerto Rico) blasted 16 kills as Polk State College topped Indian River College, 3-1(25-14, 21-25, 25-19, 25-18), in a non-conference battle, Thursday night at the Winter Haven Health Center.

The victory is the fourth in five games for the Eagles. Polk jumped out early, carrying the crowd's excitement to a win in the first set. Indian River won the second set tying the match to 1-1. However, the Eagles stormed back in the next two sets, with decisive wins to secure the 3-1 victory.   

Rivera-Romero had another fantastic game with 19 kills and 13 digs. Rachel Aguilar (Caracas, Venezuelai) recorded 18 digs, 24 assist and two aces. Kahoriz Feliz Florian (Santo Domingo, DR) had 18 kills, 9 digs and three blocks, while Chloe Boehm (Arcadia, Fl.) led with 18 assists. 

Polk returns to the court on Friday, Oct. 7, when it meets Miami Dade in the Miami-Dade Tournament at 1 p.m.
