After Season-Opener Win, Polk State Volleyball Takes on Palm Beach

After its season-opener win against Brevard Community College on Tuesday night, Polk State Volleyball turns its attention to tonight's matchup against Palm Beach.

Polk State and Palm Beach face off at 7 p.m. in the Winter Haven Health Center. Attendance is free.

Interim Head Coach German Del Valle said Palm Beach has long been a state powerhouse in the sport. Heading into the match, he said his team must emphasize "togetherness."

"The competition on Thursday will be higher. We have to come together, play our game and run our system," he said.

The Eagles swept all three games of Tuesday's matchup against Brevard — 25-23, 25-20 and 25-11.

Making big contributions for the Eagles were freshmen Rosmerli Carillo, who posted four aces and five kills, and Kelly Gallamore, with seven kills and two blocks.

The team's sophomore class, for whom this year's defense of the teams 2011 Suncoast Conference Championship is intensely personal, also posted impressive numbers, including Rachel Aguilar's seven digs and 25 assists; Stephanie Harris' nine kills and three blocks; Ileanushka Maldonado's 10 digs; and DiannMarie Rivera-Romero's six kills and nine digs.
