Castillo Leads Eagles Past Eastern Florida

The No. 4 Polk State College volleyball team notched a 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 16-25, 25-22) victory Tuesday over Eastern Florida State College.

Freshman Genesis Castillo (Puerto Rico) led Polk's attack with 13 kills, eight digs and seven blocks.

In a balanced team effort, sophomore Cheye Ann Savage (Hudson) tallied nine kills and five blocks. Sophomore Diannmarie Rivera (Puerto Rico) posted 17 digs and nine kills.

Sophomore setter Ashley Toth (Edgewater) handed out 41 assists, 18 digs and four blocks.

Freshman Rossanna Ramos (Puerto Rico) scored 22 digs. Freshman Shatorreia Edgecombe (Dame) added eight kills. Freshman Luaztani Turbi (Dominican Republic) contributed five blocks and six digs.

The Eagles (21-14) close out the regular season at home Thursday against College of Central Florida at 7 p.m. on Sophomore Night.

They head to their third consecutive state tournament Nov. 8 in Jacksonville.
