The Polk State Eagles lost the first two games then won the next three, beating the No. 9 Daytona State College Falcons (9-25, 25-27, 25-23, 25-19, 15-13) tonight at the Polk State Tournament in Winter Haven.

Head Coach German Del Valle said having the right players on the court sparked the come-from-behind victory.

"We were trying to move players around, and I think we found the right combination after the first two games, so that's what we went with.

"We also played more defense in the last three games than we did in the first two."

Elisabeth Piroli led the Eagles in assists with 41. She also had 12 digs, four blocks, two aces, and one kill.

Rossanna Ramos recorded 19 digs, two assists, and one kill.

Yara Ramirez had 11 digs, three aces, and one assist.

Genesis Castillo added 11 kills, two aces, and one block.

Ana Karine Cavalcante tallied seven kills and one ace, while Laina Blanton chipped in five blocks and four kills.

Shatorreia Edgecombe had a team-high 16 kills. She also had two digs.

The Eagles (6-15, 2-1) conclude the tournament Saturday against Florida State College at Jacksonville at 12:30 p.m. and Palm Beach State College at 5:30 p.m.
