Eagles soar past Panthers

The Polk State Eagles beat the Palm Beach State College Panthers (25-22, 25-17, 25-21) tonight to win three out of four matches in the Polk State Tournament. 

Polk State's only loss in the tournament came in its opening match against No. 6 Miami Dade College. 

"It was a good tournament overall," said Head Coach German Del Valle. "It's amazing. We were on that roll where we were losing a few matches but now we have some people playing different roles and I like what I'm seeing from this team." 

Elisabeth Piroli recorded 37 assists, eight digs, two kills, two blocks, and one assist. 

Laina Blanton finished with nine kills, five blocks, and two digs. 

Suheily Colon made three kills, three blocks, and two digs. Ana Karine Cavalcante added 13 digs, two assists, and an ace. 

Rossanna Ramos made 18 digs, while Yara Ramirez had 11. 

Genesis Castillo tallied eight kills and two blocks, while Shatorreia Edgecombe made 12 kills and one block. 

The Eagles (8-15, 2-1) return to Suncoast Conference action against Hillsborough Community College Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. in Winter Haven.
