Eagles open conference play with win over South Florida

Polk State began Suncoast Conference play tonight, beating South Florida State College 3-1 (24-26, 32-30, 25-19, 25-16) in Avon Park. 

Yue Wu, who today was named NJCAA Division 1 Volleyball Player of the Week, led the Eagles with 23 digs, 20 kills, two assists, one ace, and one block. 

Zoemy Barreto recorded 15 digs, 12 kills, three aces, one block, and one assist. 

Elisabeth Piroli contributed 51 assists, 16 digs, four kills, and one block. 

Keisha Santana made 20 digs, three aces, and two assists. 

Dayanna Teixeira tallied 11 kills, nine digs, two aces, and an assist. 

Suheily Colon had 11 kills, three blocks, and two digs. 

Laina Blanton added two kills, a block, and a dig. 

Nicole Boots made an ace, a dig, and an assist. 

The Eagles (11-6, 1-0, No. 3 FCSAA, No. 13 NJCAA) have two games Friday in the Polk State Tournament in Winter Haven. 

They face Central Florida (No. 4 FCSAA, No. 11 NJCAA) at 2 p.m. and Miami Dade (No. 9 FCSAA) at 6 p.m.
