Eagles heading to state tournament after second-place finish

Polk State volleyball ended the regular season tonight with a 2-3 loss to State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota in Bradenton. 

The Eagles finish second in the Suncoast Conference, earning a berth in the state tournament for the fifth straight year. 

After the Eagles dropped the first two sets (23-25, 19-25), they fought back to take the next two (25-19, 25-9) before losing the final 12-15. 

Dayanna Teixeira had 10 digs, nine kills, a pair of aces, and an assist. 

Elisabeth Piroli recorded 39 assists, five digs, three blocks, and three kills. 

Zoemy Barreto made 18 kills, 17 digs, three blocks, two aces, and an assist. 

Laina Blanton tallied nine blocks and three kills. 

Suheily Colon added four kills, two digs, and an ace. 

Keisha Santana had 19 digs and an assist. 

Mariafernanda Bolivar finished with 8 kills, five digs, and a block. 

Nicole Boots made two digs, an ace, and an assist. 

Madison Wildey added two digs and an ace, while Alejandra Robles had three assists.   

Yue Wu did not play due to a knee injury.

The Eagles (19-9, 6-2, No. 1 FCSAA, No. 5 NJCAA) will travel to Pensacola for the NJCAA District/FCSAA State Volleyball Tournament Nov. 5-7.
