Polk State advanced to tomorrow's state championship game with a 3-1 win over Central Florida today in the FCSAA State/NJCAA District Volleyball Tournament in Gulf Breeze.

The Eagles will face Suncoast Conference rival Hillsborough Community College at 2 p.m. Central Time.

Regardless of the outcome of that match, both teams will advance to the national championship tournament in Casper, Wyoming.

"I'm just excited for the players," said Head Coach German Del Valle. "They worked so hard all year. We've been up and down, we've had injuries, but they deserve the glory, not the coaches.

"I told our players that 90 percent of this game is mental. I respect Central Florida, but I told our players that if we control our emotion, CF would not beat us with skills.

"We played with confidence. I told our players today that if they want it they have to go get it, and that's what they did."

Dayanna Teixeira had 10 kills, seven digs, three blocks, and an assist.

Elisabeth Piroli recorded 45 assists, seven digs, four kills, two blocks, and an assist.

Yue Wu made 24 kills, 14 digs, and three blocks

Zoemy Barreto tallied 12 digs, four kills, and an ace

Keisha Santana added 16 digs and five assists.

Laina Blanton had five blocks, four kills, and a dig.

Suheily Colon finished with eight kills, four digs, and a pair of blocks.

Madison WIldey added an ace.

With today's win, the Eagles (No. 2 FCSAA, No. 9 NJCAA) improve to 22-9 for the season.
