Eagles take two on the road

Polk State volleyball extended its winning streak to six today, winning twice in Bradenton. 

In a Suncoast Conference match, the Eagles defeated State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota 3-1

After dropping the first set 18-15, the Eagles soared back to win the next three sets 25-21, 25-15, and 25-11. 

Yue Wu led the Eagles with 21 kills, 12 digs, two blocks, and an ace. 

Nicky Pio had 42 assists, six blocks, five kills, four digs, and an ace. 

Kathya Garcia made 11 kills, eight digs, an assist, and a pair of aces. 

Cristina Castillo recorded 10 digs, three assists, and a pair of aces. 

Anilise Fitzi contributed nine kills, five blocks, and two digs. 

Aurora Alderman added seven digs, four assists, and an ace.

Alejandra Sanabria had five blocks, two kills, and two digs.

Dominika Nemcova finished with four kills and four blocks. 

Nicole Boots tallied three digs. 

In nonconference action against Pasco-Hernando State College, the Eagles came away with a 3-2 victory. 

After taking the first two sets 25-19 and 25-22, the Eagles lost 17-25 and 20-25 before winning the final set 15-9. 

Castillo made 43 assists along with nine digs, four kills, four blocks, and an ace. 

Boots recorded 24 digs, an assist, and three aces. 

Fitzi had 13 kills, eight blocks, four digs, and an assist. 

Kaylee Gartino contributed eight blocks, four kills, two digs, and an assist. 

Veronika Nemcova made 13 digs, eight kills, two assists, and a block. 

Dominika Nemcova added 16 kills, five digs, three blocks, and a pair of aces. 

Sanabria finished with nine blocks and five kills. 

Alderman finished with 11 digs. 

The Eagles (18-6, 3-3, No. 7 FCSAA, No. 16 NJCAA) face St. Petersburg College at 6 p.m. on Thursday in Winter Haven.
