Eagles end regular season with Sophomore Night win

On Sophomore Night, Polk State volleyball ended its regular season with a 3-0 victory over St. Johns River State College. 

Extending their winning streak to nine, the Eagles won 25-20, 25-19, and 25-17. 

Before the match, sophomores Nicole Boots, Alejandria Sanabria, Keisha Santana, and Yue Wu received on-court recognition. 

"This program is not just about volleyball," said Head Coach German Del Valle after the match. "It's about making relationships, knowing different people in your life, and having people make an impact in your life. 

"Today was the last match here at home, and while we played volleyball, the more important thing is what we will remember about each other for the rest of our lives." 

Wu made 17 kills, 15 digs, two blocks, and an assist. 

Santana recorded eight digs and two assists. 

Boots had 12 digs, an assist, and an ace. 

Sanabria contributed three blocks and two digs. 

Cristina Castillo made 30 assists, six digs, a kill, and an ace. 

Kathya Garcia added nine kills, seven assists, two blocks, and a pair of aces. 

Anilise Fitzi finished with six kills and three blocks. 

Aurora Alderman had five digs and an assist. 

Kaylee Gartino made a kill, a block, and a dig. 

Dominika Nemcova tallied two kills and a block while Veronika Nemcova added a kill. 

The Eagles (21-6, 5-3, No. 3 FCSAA, No. 10 NJCAA) advance to the FCSAA State/NJCAA District Tournament in Bradenton, Fla. 

They face Central Florida (22-4, 10-0, No. 1 FCSAA, No. 5 NJCAA) at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at the Bradenton Civic Center.
