Eagles win opening match at national volleyball tournament

The Polk State Eagles beat Seward County Community College 3-0 today in the opening match of the NJCAA Division 1 Volleyball Championship tournament in Casper, Wyo. 

The Eagles are seeded sixth in the tournament while Seward County is seeded 11th

Polk State (25-7, No. 2 FCSAA, No. 10 NJCAA) won 25-18, 25-22, and 25-20. The Eagles play third-seeded Western Nebraska Community College today at 7:30 p.m. 

Kathya Garcia led the Eagles with 20 kills, four digs, and an ace. 

Cristina Castillo made 39 assists, 10 digs, two kills, and an ace. 

Yue Wu recorded 12 kills, 10 digs, and an assist. 

Alejandra Sanabria added three kills, an assist, a dig, and a block. 

Keisha Santana had 11 digs and three assists. 

Anilise Fitzi made five kills. 

Dominika Nemcova contributed four kills and two digs. 

Nicole Boots tallied nine digs and an ace. 

Aurora Alderman finished with two digs and an ace.
