Eagles upset Western Nebraska at national tournament

Sixth-seed Polk State knocked off third-seed Western Nebraska Community College 3-1 tonight at the NJCAA Division 1 Volleyball Championship tournament in Casper, Wyo. 

Polk State (26-7, No. 2 FCSAA, No. 10 NJCAA) won the first two sets 25-21 and 25-19. The Eagles dropped the third set 23-25 before capturing the fourth 25-15. 

Kathya Garcia had another big game, making 18 kills, nine digs, two blocks, and a pair of aces. 

Yue Wu recorded 11 kills, 10 digs, and an assist. 

Cristina Castillo made 43 assists, along with seven digs and three kills. 

Keisha Santana contributed 13 digs, three assists, and an ace. 

Nicole Boots added 10 digs and three assists. 

Alejandra Sanabria and Anilise Fitzi each had seven kills and a dig. 

Dominika Nemcova finished with seven kills and two digs. 

The Eagles advance to face second-seed Iowa Western Community College (No. 3 NJCAA) on Friday at 8:30 p.m.
