Polk State volleyball started its season with a win, defeating Santa Fe College 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-13) tonight in Winter Haven.

"It feels good to finally have the team play together," said Head Coach German Del Valle.

"We haven't practiced together for the last two weeks due to injuries. We had Nicky Pio setting the ball tonight for the first time in two weeks.

"In game two Santa Fe was a better team in terms of serving more aggressively, but I love how we deal with adversity."

Pio led the Eagles with 26 assists, five kills, four aces, and two digs.

Kathya Garcia made six kills, five digs, and two blocks.

Anilise Fitzi recorded seven kills, five blocks, three digs, and an assist.

Veronika Nemcova tallied eight kills, three digs, and a block.

Diana Carranza contributed 12 digs and two assists.

Aurora Alderman also made 12 digs, along with two assists and an ace.

Chiara Bosetti finished with three digs, two kills, an ace, and an assist.

Dominika Nemcova made four kills, while Kaylee Gartino had two, and Alexa Barral added one.

The Eagles travel to Melbourne, Fla., Saturday to play Eastern Florida State College and State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota.
