Eagles take first match at state tournament

Polk State won its first match today at the NJCAA District/FCSAA State Volleyball Tournament in Bradenton.

The Eagles defeated Florida State College at Jacksonville 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-12).

Head Coach German Del Valle was pleased with the team's performance.

"We were really calm," he said. "I liked that we were just playing our game and following instructions.

"Jacksonville had a different game plan than I expected, and we had to make some adjustments.

"When I look at the numbers, I see everybody did something to help us win."  

Manuela Vargas led Polk State with 26 assists, six digs, and a block.

Chiara Bosetti made 12 kills, two digs, a block, and an ace.

Kathya Garcia recorded 11 kills, seven digs, and a pair of aces.

Diana Carranza had 15 digs, two assists, and three aces. 

Nicky Pio finished with nine assists, three digs, two kills, and a block.

Anilise Fitzi made five kills, four blocks, and a dig.

Veronika Nemcova tallied six kills and a block.

Aurora Alderman had five digs while Alexa barrel made four kills.

The Eagles (14-6, 7-2, No. 4 FCSAA) play Miami Dade College today at 4 p.m.
