Eagles lose pair at Polk State Invitational

Polk State volleyball lost a pair of matches today at the Polk State Invitational in Winter Haven.  

The Eagles (No. 2 FCSAA, No. 7 NJCAA) fell to Florida State College at Jacksonville 3-1.  

After taking the first set 25-13, Polk State dropped the next three, 21-25, 24-26, 20-25. 

Mariane Cassiano made a team-high 14 kills along with 10 digs, a block, and an assist. 

Gregna Fuentes led the Eagles with 24 assists.  

Aixa Vigil recorded 10 assists, eight kills, and an ace. 

Diana Carranza contributed 15 digs and three assists. 

Chiara Bosetti made 12 kills, five digs, two blocks, and a pair of aces. 

Weiying Wu finished with five blocks, three kills, and a dig. 

Alexa Barral tallied two blocks, a kill, and a dig.

Nayeli Vilchez had two blocks, a dig, and a kill while Vanessa Tirollo made two digs and an ace.

 

Polk State finished the day with a match against defending national champion Miami Dade College (No. 1 FCSAA, No. 1 NJCAA). 

The Eagles took the first set 25-23 then lost the nest two 21-25 and 20-25.  

They came back strong to win the fourth set 25-18 but dropped the final set 6-15. 

Vilchez led the Eagles in assists with 38 and added eight digs, four aces, four kills, and three blocks. 

Cassiano made a team-high 22 kills along with 17 digs. 

Carranza contributed 20 digs, three assists, and a kill. 

Bosetti reached double figures in kills (15) and digs (13).

Fuentes recorded 11 digs and eight assists. 

Barral finished with six kills and a block. 

Vigil added five kills, four digs, a block, and an ace. 

Wu made four blocks and two kills, and Tirollo had two digs and an ace.

 

The Eagles (3-3) return to action tomorrow, facing Indian River State College at 12:15 p.m. and Iowa Western Community College at 4:45 p.m.
