Polk State defeated St. Petersburg College 3-0 tonight in Winter Haven.

After taking the first two sets 25-22 and 25-20, the Eagles struggled to start the third set. They trailed 1-7 before rallying for a 16-16 tie and an eventual 25-22 win.

"It was important that we came back to win the third set," said Head Coach German Del Valle.

"The first two games we kind of dominated and we were in control of things, but I knew St. Pete would come out on fire in the third set.

"So I told our players to trust in the process. If we cannot play the game we want to play, then we play the game we have to play to beat them and slowly we did it."

Diana Carranza led the Eagles with 21 digs, along with an assist and an ace.

Aixa Vigil made 12 kills, eight digs, two blocks, two assists, and an ace.

Chiara Bosetti also had 12 kills to go with nine digs.

Nayeli Vilchez recorded 17 assists, three blocks, two kills, two digs, and an ace.

Mariane Cassiano contributed nine kills and two blocks.

Gregna Fuentes finished with 17 assists, four digs, and an ace.

Weiying Wu tallied four blocks, three kills, and an assist.

Alexa Barral had three blocks and a kill.

Vanessa Tirollo added four digs, an assist, and a pair of aces while Hannah Forbes made two digs.

The Eagles (9-4, No. 2 FCSAA, No. 15 NJCAA) return to action Friday and Saturday when they play four matches at the Miami Dade College Tournament.
