Polk State volleyball opened the 2019 season with a bang, going 4-0 at the Rose City Volleyball Classic in Tyler, Texas.

After starting Friday with a 3-1 win over Missouri State University-West Plains (25-23, 19-25, 25-20, 25-21), the Eagles (No. 2 FCSAA, No. 7 NJCAA) went on to defeat the host school, Tyler Junior College (No. 6 NJCAA), 3-1 (18-25, 29-27, 25-22, 25-20).

Polk State stayed hot Saturday, beating North Central Texas College 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-20) and Panola College (No. 18 NJCAA) 3-1 (25-23, 25-17, 14-25, 25-22).

"This was a great experience for us coming down here," said Head Coach German Del Valle.

"The level of competition was outstanding. We had to play hard to go undefeated. As a team we played fantastically.

"The freshman players have done an excellent job of applying our system and adapting to our culture. In particular, Manuela Ibarguen and Suared Molina raised our level of play this weekend."

The Eagles (4-0, No. 2 FCSAA, No. 7 NJCAA) return to action Tuesday against Lake-Sumter State College (No. 1 FCSAA DII, No. 15 NJCAA DII) at 7 p.m. in Winter Haven.
