Polk State volleyball improved to 5-0 tonight, beating Lake-Sumter State College (No. 1 FCSAA DII) 3-0 in Winter Haven.

After winning the first two sets 25-15 and 25-18, the Eagles trailed 7-11 in the third set before rallying for a 25-18 victory.

The Eagles have relied on freshmen, playing just three sophomores so far.

"Our freshmen are really talented," said Head Coach German Del Valle, "but one of the main things is we have a setter, Milexa Cardona, who's a sophomore transfer and she allows us to do a lot of things that are crucial for us.

"Every year I say we have a good group, but this group is something different than I expected. They do a lot of good things that I like."

Manuela Ibarguen led the Eagles with 17 kills. She also made five digs.

Aixa Vigil had 12 kills, eight digs, an ace, an assist, and a block.

Cardona had a team-high 25 assists, along with four digs and a kill.

Keren Souza recorded 10 digs, four kills, three aces, a block, and an assist.

Suared Molina contributed seven digs and an ace.

Mariana Donado made nine assists and a dig.

Valentina Bahamon finished with 10 assists and three kills.

Nicole Kuchma had four digs and an ace, while Nina Finderle added two kills and two blocks.

The Eagles (5-0, No. 2 FCSAA) return to action Friday in Winter Haven. They face Florida Southwestern State College (3-2) at 3 p.m. and then take on Miami Dade College (3-1, No. 1 FCSAA) at 7 p.m.
