Tommie Lewis Earns NJCAA All-America Honorable Mention

WINTER HAVEN -- Polk State guard Tommie Lewis has been recognized as a NJCAA All-America Honorable Mention selection.

As a sophomore during the 2021-22 season, Lewis played in all 29 games for the Eagles. For the season, Lewis averaged 13.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.

A Texas A&M University-Commerce commitment, Lewis shot 46.4% from the field, nearly 75% from the free throw line and a solid 38% from deep. Lewis said that his next school is getting a player who will do whatever it takes to help his team win.

"(I'm) a hard-working player who sacrifices for the team and leaves it all on the court," Lewis said. "I feel like I could've done better (this season), but I'm happy (with the honor). More great things are coming."

Lewis was a big reason for the Eagles' success this past season as Polk State finished the 2021-22 campaign with a record of 19-10. Lewis said that he wished the team could have accomplished more, but he enjoyed his time at Polk State.

"I wanted us to go farther, but I love the culture of Polk," Lewis said. "It makes you feel like home. Everyone is a family."

Lewis becomes the first All-America selection for Polk State under fifth-year head coach Brandon Giles.

"Tommie is a terrific young man and a proven leader," Giles said. "From the moment he stepped on campus, he worked tirelessly to become a better player and was an outstanding representative for our program. For that hard work to culminate in an All-America selection makes me incredibly proud to be his coach. I, without a doubt in my mind, can honestly say there was never day where Tommie Lewis did not bring it on the court and for that, I am grateful to have been able to coach and mentor him."
