FORT MYERS — Polk State Softball did a nice job of limiting the damage done by No. 3 Florida SouthWestern State College on Tuesday afternoon, but couldn't get the bats going as the Eagles were shut out in both games of the doubleheader.
Polk State (8-9) was held to just three hits in the first game and just four in the second. All seven hits for the Eagles were singles.
Florida SouthWestern State won the first game by a 6-0 score. It needed just six innings to win the second, 8-0.
In each game, Laura Vigna got the scoring started with an RBI groundout in the first inning. In the opener, the Buccaneers added a run in the second and two in the third before Jaden Goodwin's two-run double in the sixth capped the scoring.
Florida SouthWestern blew the second game open with four runs in the fifth inning. Goodwin and Caroline Figueroa each had RBI hits in the inning. Gabby Martin tripled home a run in the sixth before coming around to score to end the game.

Alexis Thomas each had hits for Polk State in the first game.
Kanitria Antenor,
Alma Fernandez, Guethle, and
Suheily Mercado all had hits for the Eagles in the second.
With the two wins on Tuesday, Florida SouthWestern State sweeps the season series from Polk State. The Buccaneers have handed the Eagles four of their nine losses this season.
Polk State will now return home for a doubleheader on Thursday against Hocking College. The first game is set to begin at 3 p.m.
