Box Score 2 TAMPA — Polk State Softball's slim FCSAA Tournament hopes fell by the wayside on Tuesday night. The Eagles were eliminated from postseason contention with 7-1 and 9-2 losses to Hillsborough Community College in a Suncoast Conference doubleheader.
Polk State (14-23, 1-9 Suncoast) never led on Tuesday. Each of the Eagles' last six losses have come by at least four runs.
Shorthanded Polk State was forced to experiment with new lineups in the field but was no match for Hillsborough. In their four wins over Polk State this season, the Hawks have outscored the Eagles by a 26-4 margin.
Alma Fernandez plated the lone run for the Eagles in the first game — her team-leading 28th.
Kanitria Antenor and
Alexis Thomas each drove in runs in the second game.
Polk State will head to Clearwater on Saturday for games against Hillsborough Community and St. Petersburg College. The Eagles and Hawks will kick off the doubleheader at 1 p.m.
