Box Score WINTER HAVEN — Polk State Basketball will end the calendar year on a two-game winning streak. The Eagles were in command for virtually the entire evening on Tuesday in a 67-61 victory over Palm Beach State College.
As was the case when the teams met earlier this month in Lake Worth, Polk State (11-2) was able to start strong. Unlike the first meeting, however, Palm Beach State was unable to storm back to take the lead.
Polk State led 38-27 at halftime. In the second half, that advantage ballooned to 17. The Panthers closed the game on a 12-2 run to make the final score look more respectable.
The story of the game for the Eagles was defense. Polk State held Palm Beach State to 34% shooting.
Jimmy Cami was a force at the rim with six blocked shots.
Kenny Fields led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points and three assists.
Ty Owens and
Nathan Andrice each added 11 points. Cami and Andrice led the Eagles with eight rebounds apiece.
Syris Williams led Palm Beach State with 14 points and four assists. His offensive effort, however, came on just 5-for-16 from the field. One bright spot for the Panthers was 3-point shooting as they finished 8 of 13 from deep.
Polk State will get a couple weeks off for the holidays before returning to action on Jan. 1. It will wrap up non-conference play at home against West Bay Collegiate Academy.
