Box Score WINTER HAVEN — With more than a third of the  regular season remaining, Polk State Basketball has already equaled last season's win total. It took overtime but the Eagles got into the Citrus Conference win column on Saturday afternoon with a 75-70 victory over Santa Fe College.
Kenny Fields stole the show for Polk State (13-6, 1-4) in overtime. Fields had three steals, leading to fast-break baskets. He also added a three-point play to finish with nine points in the extra period.
Polk State scored the first six points in overtime. The Saints would get as close as two, but the Eagles held on despite shooting just 6-for-13 from the foul line in the extra period.
The first 40 minutes were a tale of two halves. The Eagles closed the first half on an 18-7 run to take a 37-26 lead into the locker room. In the second half, Polk State managed just 22 points and shot just 9 of 27 from the field.
Fields led the Eagles with a career-high 24 points and six steals to go with six rebounds.
Jimmy Cami shot 5-for-6 from the field, finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Ty Owens added 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
Karmello Branch scored eight of the Saints' 11 points in overtime to finish with a team-high 19. Ryan Webster and Predrag Panisic added 18 and 16 points, respectively, in the loss.
With a Citrus Conference win to build off of, Polk State will welcome Daytona State College to the Health Center on Wednesday night. Tip time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
