Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN — Polk State Softball's winning streak came to an end at seven on Tuesday. After the Eagles took the first game of the doubleheader, it dropped the nightcap against South Florida State College.
Polk State needed just five innings to win the first game, 10-1.Â
The Eagles blew things open with a six-run second inning.
Karyna Lewis followed RBI singles from
Nayeli Hernandez and
Natalie Hiles with a two-run double. Lewis would score on a two-run single from
Chelsi Rae' Hebert.
Hebert capped the scoring and a five-RBI game with her team-leading fourth home run in the fourth inning — a three-run shot.
Nayeli Hernandez went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Hiles also had two hits.
In the cirle,
Jamie Reinhardt went all five innings for the Eagles, allowing just a run on six hits. Aziyia Patterson had two hits and the lone RBI for South Florida State.
Polk State dropped the second game, 8-7. After falling behind 6-0, the Eagles (8-3) rallied to take the lead before South Florida State pushed across two runs late.
The Eagles got on the board with four runs in the third. After RBI groundouts from Reinhardt and
Destiny Driskell, Hebert crushed her second homer of the day and fifth of the season — a two-run blast.
Polk State went ahead with three runs in the fourth. After RBI singles from
Rylee Hartnell and Driskell tied the game, Lewis' RBI groundout game the Eagles a 7-6 lead.
The Panthers tied the game with a run in the sixth. Patterson, who got the scoring started with a solo home run in the first, capped it with the winning single in the seventh. She finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Lewis, Hebert,
Joyleen Vidal, and Hartnell each finished with two hits for the Eagles. Although she did not factor in the decision,
Kaylyn Mitchum shined in the circle, allowing just an unearned run in 3.2 innings.
Polk State will try to start a new winning streak on Thursday when it hosts Pasco-Hernando State College for a doubleheader. Start times are scheduled for 4 and 6 p.m.
