Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN — It wasn't a day to remember for Polk State Softball. The Eagles were swept in a doubleheader by Santa Fe College on Saturday to run their Citrus Conference losing streak to four.
Santa Fe took the first game by a score of 8-3. The Saints seized control with a three-run home run from Jazmyn Thompson in the second inning before extending the lead to 5-0 with two runs in the third.
Leia Hurst doubled home
Silvia Franzoni to break up the shutout for Polk State in the third. Santa Fe answered with a run in the fifth before scoring two more in the sixth.Â
The Eagles did manage to find some late offense.
Nayeli Hernandez added an RBI double for Polk State in the sixth.
Karyna Lewis grounded out to score
Jamie Reinhardt in the seventh.
The Eagles struggled in the field, finishing with seven errors. That led to four unearned runs for the Saints.
Lewis and
Chelsi Rae' Hebert each finished 3-for-4 at the plate for Polk State. Olivia LeMeau went 2-for-2 with three RBIs for Santa Fe.
Santa Fe needed just five innings to take the second game, 10-0.
Rylee Hartnell and Reinhardt had the only two hits for the Eagles (13-11, 1-5 Citrus Conference). After scoring a run in the first, the Saints blew things open with four runs in the third and five in the fourth.
Madison Conway was 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored for Santa Fe.
Avery Curtis was a bright spot for Polk State in the circle as she worked a scoreless fifth.
After consecutive doubleheader sweeps, Polk State will try to get back on track on Tuesday when it hosts Seminole State College of Florida in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
