NICEVILLE — Polk State Basketball guard
Ty Owens capped a stellar sophomore season with yet another accolade.
On Saturday, Owens was named to the FCSAA All-Tournament Team. The native of Port St. Lucie scored 21 points on an efficient 7-for-13 from the field, 3-for-3 from deep, and 4-for-4 from the foul line in the Eagles' heartbreaking 68-66 loss to top-seeded Daytona State College in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Owens added five rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Previously recognized as a first-team All-Citrus Conference and All-FCSAA performer, Owens finished the season averaging 15 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. Owens was also an efficient scorer, shooting 48.4% from the field, 44% from beyond the arc, and 89% from the free-throw line.
Just the fifth player to earn All-FCSAA accolades under Head Coach Brandon Giles, Owens is the first Polk State player to lead the team in points, assists, and steals since Tommie Lewis during the 2019-20 season. Owens also becomes the first Polk State player to make the All-Tournament Team since Troy Simons in 2016.
The Eagles finished the season, their 60th as a program, with a record of 19-12. The trip to the FCSAA Tournament was the first for Polk State since 2022.
