Box Score 2 CLEARWATER — Polk State Softball has a winning record once again. The Eagles moved back over .500 with a doubleheader sweep at St. Petersburg College on Thursday.
After letting an early lead slip away, Polk State used a six-run fifth to seize control of the first game. The Eagles came on strong late to win, 12-7.
Down 6-5 through four innings, Polk State strung together four straight hits to take the lead. After
Jamie Reinhardt's RBI single tied the game,
Leia Hurst put the Eagles ahead for good with an RBI single of her own.
Chelsi Rae' Hebert followed with an RBI double to extend the lead to 8-6. She came around to score on
Silvia Franzoni's two-run single. A St. Petersburg error allowed the sixth run of the inning to score to make it 11-6.
RBI doubles by Hurst and Franzoni highlighted a four-run first inning as Polk State jumped to a 4-0 lead. The Titans answered with three in the bottom of the first before taking the lead with runs in each of the next three innings.
As a team, Polk State finished with 17 hits. Reinhardt and Franzoni each had three-hit games. Reinhardt scored three times while Franzoni finished with four RBIs.

Karyna Lewis, and Hurst each added two hits.
Pitcher
Dee Allen went the distance in the circle. After a rough start, she worked scoreless fifth and seventh innings and allowed just an unearned run in the sixth. Ella Carroll finished a home run short of the cycle for St. Petersburg, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Polk State capped the doubleheader sweep by holding off the Titans in the second game, 8-7.
For the second straight game, the Eagles raced to a 4-0 lead. After Hebert tripled home a run in the first, Polk State pushed across three runs in the third. Hurst's two-run single highlighted the inning.
St. Petersburg got two runs back on a Carroll single in the bottom of the inning, but through five and a half innings, it looked like the Eagles might cruise to victory. Reinhardt and Hurst each drove in runs in the fifth. Hurst and Hebert did likewise in the sixth as Polk State built an 8-3 lead.
The Titans made things interesting with two runs in each of the final two innings. After
Tessa Anderson worked the first six innings, Reinhardt threw the seventh. She got Olivia Rogers to ground out to end the contest.
Reinhardt, Hurst, and Hebert each finished with two hits for Polk State in the win. Reinhardt again scored three times while Hurst drove in three. Hernandez also scored twice in the win. Loren Tucker finished with three hits for St. Petersburg in the loss.
The doubleheader sweep is the first for Polk State on the road in conference play this season. The Eagles will also finish a perfect 4-0 this season against the Titans. Polk State will return home for a doubleheader against Eastern Florida State College on Tuesday.Â
