Box Score 2 FORT MYERS – Polk State Softball had its moments on Thursday but not enough to take a game from No. 2 Florida SouthWestern State College. The Eagles were swept in the doubleheader.

Polk State opened the day with a five-inning run-rule loss, 8-0.

The Buccaneers wasted little time seizing control by plating three runs in the first inning with two coming on a triple by Emily Allegood. After
Kaylyn Mitchum worked a scoreless second inning for the Eagles, Florida SouthWestern State added a run in the third inning and four in the fourth.

Leia Hurst had the lone hit of the contest for Polk State. Lead-off hitter Nicole Edmiaston finished 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, and three RBIs for FSW.

The second game was more competitive. FSW ultimately prevailed, 8-1.
After the Buccaneers scored twice in the first, starting pitcher
Avery Curtis settled in nicely for Polk State with three straight scoreless innings. The Eagles (27-30, 14-24 Citrus Conference) made things interesting with a run in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Jamie Glassford singled to open the inning. She came around to score the only Polk State run of the day on a sharp single to center field by
Silvia Franzoni.
FSW opened things up with four runs in the bottom of the inning. The Buccaneers added two more in the sixth.
After just one hit in the first game, the Eagles finished with six in the second. Franzoni finished with two hits. Hurst,
Joyleen Vidal, and
Makenzie Foster each added knocks. Noelani Livingstone and Skylar Brennan each went 2-for-4 with two runs scored for Florida SouthWestern.

With the losses, the Eagles have now dropped four straight contests. Polk State will try to finish strong as it concludes the season at home on Monday against No. 9 Miami Dade College.
