WINTER HAVEN — Polk State Basketball will enter the month of November undefeated. The Eagles doubled their early-season win total on Saturday with a 129-68 rout of Florida College JV.
Jaylon Brown set the tone with a fast-break basket and an early 3-pointer as the Eagles scored the game's first nine points.
Ethan Simon and
Elijah Lubsey each had baskets at the rim during the 9-0 start.
Florida College JV was able to cut the deficit to 14-10, but it would get no closer. The Eagles used an 18-5 run to turn the contest into a rout.
Polk State (2-0) shot a remarkable 63% for the game and was 42-for-49 from inside the 3-point line. It led 68-33 at halftime. For the second straight day, the Eagles had five players in scoring in double figures.
Brown and
Eric Dailey each finished with 24 points to pace Polk State. Simon added 22 points and nine rebounds.
Tre Jackson and Lubsey chipped in with 15 and 11 points, respectively.
Prior to the game, Rev. Trevor Allen of Imprint Ministries was recognized with a framed jersey for his support of Polk State Basketball and Polk State Athletics. Known as "Pastor T," Allen gives generously in in-kind donations to each of Polk State's five athletic teams.
After consecutive home victories to open the season, Polk State will leave the Health Center for the first time next week when it plays two games in Daytona Beach as part of the Daytona State Shootout. The Eagles will take on Motlow State Community College on Friday.
