WINTER HAVEN -- Polk State College's fall sports will combine for just three matches this week, but all will take place against nationally ranked teams.

Polk State Volleyball will take on a pair of top-five teams. Polk State Soccer will head to Melbourne for a neutral-site showdown. 

WEEKLY SCHEDULE

Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m.: No. 4 Daytona State College (15-4, 2-4 Citrus Conference) at Polk State College (0-17, 0-6 Citrus Conference)

Saturday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m.: Polk State (0-17, 0-6 Citrus Conference) at No. 1 Miami Dade College (17-0, 6-0 Citrus Conference)

PREVIEW

• Polk State is slated to take on two more top-five opponents this week. Through 17 matches, the Eagles have faced nine nationally ranked opponents.

• During Wednesday's match vs. No. 4 Daytona State College, Polk State will host its annual “Dig Pink” night. The annual contest raises awareness for breast cancer. The Eagles upset No. 19 Eastern Florida State College in five sets in last season's Dig Pink match.

• Polk State's Ana Martinez continues to rank among the FCSAA leaders in digs per set. She is currently averaging 3.07 digs per set – good for fourth in the state. In last week's 3-0 loss to Santa Fe College, Martinez tallied 19 digs – her second-highest total of the season.

• Polk State's Kenzington Hyde finished with 10 assists against Florida SouthWestern State College on Saturday. It marked the third time that Hyde reached double digits in assists and the first time in Citrus Conference play.

• Daytona State's Yuseiry Ramirez Terrero leads the FCSAA, averaging 3.24 kills per set. She finished with nine kills in a 3-0 win over Polk State on Sept. 19.

• Miami Dade College's Eleonora Gicheva leads the FCSAA, averaging 9.36 assists per set. Gicheva finished with 22 assists in the 3-0 victory over Polk State on Sept. 23.

PREVIEW

• Last week, Polk State picked up its first win at Eastern Florida State College since 2010. This week, the Eagles return to Orlando Health Stadium for a second straight match to take on No. 11 Monroe Community College.

• In last week's 2-1 win over No. 13 Eastern Florida State, Jaycie Noble scored two goals, becoming the first Polk State player to score two goals in a conference match since Marcella Koasne in 2022. Noble now ranks third in the FCSAA in goals (7) and shots (38) and fourth in points (15).

• Following a 10-save performance in a 1-1 tie against Daytona State College on Sept. 23, Polk State's Sofia Zapata was named the FCSAA Goalkeeper of the Week last week. She finished with four saves in the win over the Titans and leads the FCSAA this season with 38 saves.

• During Polk State's 2-1 win last week in Melbourne, Wendy Benedo collected her first assist of the year. Benedo scored her first goal in a win over Central Georgia Technical College on Aug. 23.

• Monroe Community's Lillian Boesel is a player to watch for the Spartans. She leads the team with seven goals and 17 points this season.
