Johnny Shaw has served as the Polk State Basketball Manager since 2011.
Born the second youngest of six children in Mississippi, Shaw marched with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the Civil Rights Movement. He's also served as a Chaplain for the mentor group Brother 2 Brother.
Nicknamed "Cool Breeze," Shaw's duties include preparing for events such as games, cleaning up when they're over, doing team laundry, packing for road trips and picking up food among other things. Friendly and always willing to have a conversation, Shaw doesn't always talk about himself but there is a lot he could talk about.
In his 60s, Shaw completed his Associate in Arts and Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management with a concentration in Business Administration when he graduated from Polk State College in 2019. Shaw was a member of the Black Student Union and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. He later earned his master's degree in Theology from Warner University.
A father of three, the level of Shaw's impact would not be as great without the support of his wife, Annie.
