Milexa Cardona, a former standout for Polk State Volleyball, is in her first season as an assistant coach for the Eagles.
A native of Kissimmee and graduate of Dr. Phillips High School, Cardona began her collegiate career at Delaware State University in 2018 where she led the team in total assists. She spent her sophomore year at Polk State where she played under German Del Valle and current Head Coach Barbosa, who was a first-year assistant coach at the time.
In her lone season at Polk State, Cardona averaged 9.12 assists per set and helped the Eagles soar to No. 1 in the NJCAA Poll for the first time ever. Cardona earned second-team All-Suncoast Conference while helping Polk State finish fourth nationally at the NJCAA Tournament.
After earning her Associate in Arts from Polk State, Cardona went on to play at Howard University, an NCAA Division I program in Washington D.C. After leading the Bison is total assists and service aces during the 2020 season (played in spring 2021), Cardona averaged a team-best 6.22 assists per set as a senior in 2021 as Howard beat Delaware State, her former school, for the MEAC title and an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
While her volleyball accomplishments speak for themselves, Cardona's academic success may be more impressive. Cardona graduated magna cum laude while earning her bachelor's degree in Media Journalism and Film with a minor in Spanish in December 2022. In addition to coaching, Cardona hopes to become a sports reporter.
