Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After battling in two tough defeats to open the calendar year, Polk State Basketball earned a resounding 93-69 win at Florida State College at Jacksonville on Saturday afternoon for its first Central Conference win of the season.
The Eagles were fueled by six different individuals in double-digit scoring, including sophomore guard
George Pridgett, who scored a team-best 20. This marked the seventh 20-point game of the season for the Boston, Mass. native.
Polk exploded as an offensive unit for a 56-point second half that helped open the Eagles' advantage and propel them to victory.
"We finally saw some shots fall for us and it feels good to put a win in the column," said Polk State Head Coach
Brandon Giles.
Pridgett was joined in double figures by freshman
Dominick Nelson, who scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half. Sophomore big men
Jordan Smalls and
AJ Hamrick each scored 12. Smalls has now registered back-to-back games in double figures.
Making his return from injury, sophomore guard
Alex Vertus sunk a trio of three-pointers in the second half to finish with 11 points. Sophomore guard
Rod Jones rounded out the premier scoring for Polk with 10 points.
Polk stays on the road on Wednesday, as the Eagles head to Gainesville to take on Santa Fe College. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
"It's been a while since we've felt like what it feels to win two in a row, so Wednesday's night game is extremely important as we push forward," added Giles.
