Box Score GAINESVILLE – Polk State Basketball couldn't make its strong start last 40 minutes on Sunday afternoon as it fell to No. 5 Chipola College at the Region 8 Shootout, 79-61.
The Eagles (6-4) led by as many as 10 points in the first half, but the Indians stormed back to grab a 34-30 lead at halftime. Chipola slowly pulled away to hand Polk State its third straight loss.
Dominick Nelson's stellar offensive season continued as he paced the Eagles with 21 points.
TrayVon Osborne added 12 points – all in the first half.
Ty Owens chipped in with 10 points.
During its mini skid, Polk State has struggled to put two good halves together. The Eagles were outscored 45-31 in the second half on Sunday.
"The positive takeaway is we have a really good half to build off of," Head Coach Brandon Giles said. "I thought the first half was our best half of basketball so far this year. It's something that a team as young as ours can build on."
Polk State will look to stay undefeated at home on Thursday night as it welcomes Monroe College to the Health Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
