Box Score WINTER HAVEN — As was the case in the first two meetings, the contest between Polk State Basketball and Eastern Florida State College wasn't decided until late. In the end, the Titans completed the season sweep on Saturday, 87-79.
Neither team was very efficient offensively, but Eastern Florida shot 39% to just 32% for the Eagles (9-16, 4-7 Central Conference). The Titans also made seven more free throws and held a 58-44 rebounding advantage on the glass.
George Pridgett led the Eagles with 30 points and four steals.
Rod Jones added 13 points and a team-high four assists.
Dominick Nelson finished just 1-for 12 from the field but made 10 free throws to finish with 12 points.
Polk State trailed 42-39 at halftime but shot just 31% in the second half and a less-than-stellar 14-for-22 from the charity stripe. Eastern Florida made five of its nine 3-point attempts in the second half.
Eric Parnell led the Titans with 19 points on an efficient 5-for-9 from the field and 4-for-8 from distance. AJ Dixon and Bogdon Chet each added 17 points. Carlin Gelin finished with 13 points as he and Chet each brought down a game-high 12 rebounds.
After winning the first two matchups by five points each, the sweep of Polk State keeps Eastern Florida in control of its own destiny in the Central Conference. Polk State will celebrate Sophomore Night on Wednesday as No. 12 Daytona State College visits the Health Center for the final home game of the season.
