Box Score JACKSONVILLE — A balanced scoring effort was not enough to snap Polk State Basketball's losing streak on Saturday as the Eagles dropped a triple-overtime heartbreaker at Florida State College at Jacksonville, 97-91.
Both teams had opportunities to put the contest away, but it was Caleb Paige's 3-pointer in overtime that ultimately put the BlueWave ahead for good. FSCJ scored the game's final eight points.
Paige scored the bucket that gave FSCJ a 71-69 lead late in regulation. With less than eight seconds left, Polk State's
George Pridgett hit a pair of free throws to tie the game and ultimately force overtime.
Late in the first overtime, Paige was fouled while converting underneath to tie the game. His go-ahead free throw, however, was no good.
The BlueWave led by as many as six in the second overtime, but two 3-pointers by Pridgett capped a 6-0 run by the Eagles (9-18, 4-9 Central Conference) to force a third overtime.
Dominick Nelson converted from the foul line to give Polk State its final lead.
Despite scoring just two points in the first half, Pridgett led five Polk State players in double figures with 19 points.
Jordan Smalls scored a season-high 18 points while
AJ Hamrick finished with 14 points, including seven straight late in regulation.
Alex Vertus and Nelson added 12 and 11 points, respectively, in the defeat.
With the win, FSCJ avoided being swept for the season by Polk State. The Eagles have now lost four straight games. They'll play their final road game of the season on Wednesday at Santa Fe College.
