Box Score WINTER HAVEN — For all the close games this season played by Polk State Basketball, none were more exciting than what took place on Saturday. As time expired,
George Pridgett banked in a 55-foot heave to lift the Eagles past Santa Fe College, 84-82.
It looked as though Polk State was headed for another heartbreaking defeat when Santa Fe scored following an offensive rebound with 1.2 seconds left. The Eagles (9-14, 4-5 Central Florida) called timeout, drew up a play, and Pridgett delivered.
"
George Pridgett is the most resilient, hard-working, and committed kid I've ever been around," Head Coach
Brandon Giles said. "We drew something up for him and boom, he called game!"
The Saints led most of the way, including 43-36 at halftime. Polk State finally pulled in front late before Pridgett's prayer put it ahead for good.
Pridgett led the Eagles with 22 points.
Dominick Nelson added 16 points.
Carson Beisner and
Rod Jones each finished with 13 points. Jones dished out a team-high five assists.
Jalen Speer and Nigel Martin finished with 24 and 20 points, respectively, in the loss for Santa Fe.
With the victory, Polk State has now won consecutive games for the first time since November. The Eagles will go for three in a row when they visit St. Petersburg College on Wednesday.
