Box Score ST. PETERSBURG — Polk State Basketball's first winning streak since November will end at two. The Eagles came out flat on Wednesday night in a 74-60 road loss to St. Petersburg College.
From the opening tip, not much went right for the Eagles (9-15, 4-6 Central Conference). Polk State trailed by as many as 15 points in the opening half but closed it strong.
George Pridgett and
Alex Vertus each hit 3-pointers to cap a 10-0 run to end the half. The Eagles trailed 33-28 at the break. In the second half, they could get no closer.
The Titans led by as many as 22 points in the final half. With the help of five 3-pointers, Joshua Meo led St. Petersburg with a game-high 29 points. Brenden Williams added 17 points for the Titans in the victory.
"St. Pete is a tough, hard-nosed team," Polk State Head Coach
Brandon Giles said. "That's who they are and that's who they've always been. If you don't match their intensity, you won't win and we didn't do that tonight."
Pridgett led Polk State with 21 points in the loss.
Dominick Nelson and Vertus added 10 and eight points, respectively.
The Eagles will play their next two games at home — their last two home games of the season. Polk State will try to avoid the season sweep on Saturday when Eastern Florida State College comes to the Health Center. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
