Box Score SWAINSBORO — Two Sunshine State programs put on a show at the East Georgia State Classic on Thursday. In the end, Florida State College at Jacksonville finished one basket better than Polk State Basketball, 68-66.

In a game dominated by defense, Polk State (9-2) shot less than 40% from the field. FCSJ, the No. 12 team in the NJCAA Division II Poll, didn't fare much better at 41.5%.

Ty Owens led the Eagles with 20 points but his game-tying attempt in the final seconds went awry. Owens also led the team with three steals. Karl Knighten Jr. added nine points. Cole White and Kenny Fields each finished with eight.

Alex McCray led the Manta Rays with a game-high 24 points. The teams combined for just 12 turnovers. Polk State shot just 1-for-11 from deep.

The Eagles will try to snap a two-game losing streak on Friday when they wrap up the East Georgia State Classic against Walters State College. Tip time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
