WINTER HAVEN – Returning sophomores such as Ty Owens, Karl Knighten Jr., and Fray Nguimbi have been a big part of Polk State Basketball's early success for the 2024-25 season. The Eagle of the Month, however, is a talented newcomer.

Freshman forward Jimmy Cami has earned the distinction for November 2024. The honor is chosen by the Polk State Athletics Eagle of the Month Committee.

Cami entered the week leading the FCSAA and ranking third in the nation in rebounds per game, averaging 10.7 per contest. In a 93-57 win over DME Academy on Nov. 13, Cami broke the Polk State single-game rebound record, hauling in 27 boards, including 14 offensive rebounds.

In addition to his work on the glass, Cami is averaging 11.1 points per game. Cami scored a career-high 24 points on 11-for-13 shooting in a 111-107 win over the University of South Carolina at Salkehatchie on Nov. 15 as Head Coach Brandon Giles picked up his 100th career victory. The 24 points remains the most by a Polk State player this season.

A native of the Republic of Congo, Cami also ranks fifth in the FCSAA in blocks per game (1.6) and seventh in field goal percentage (.593). He leads Polk State in both categories. Cami has played in each of the Eagles' seven games this season, starting the last three.

With Cami as a big part of its success, Polk State is 7-0 for the first time in 17 years and the last remaining undefeated team in the FCSAA. The Eagles will try to stay perfect on Wednesday night when they host TRC Academy.
