Box Score MELBOURNE – It seemed as though No. 18 Eastern Florida State College was comfortably ahead from the start on Saturday afternoon at Titan Field House. Polk State Basketball was unable to make a serious threat before the Titans pulled away late in a 95-62 loss.
Eastern Florida State scored the game's first nine points and led by double digits for most of the first half. The Eagles (11-11, 2-6 Citrus Conference) were able to cut what was a 16-point deficit to 41-31 but the Titans scored the final five points of the first half to take a 46-31 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, Polk State was never able to get closer than 12. Eastern Florida State, however, didn't make things ugly until the final 10 minutes. The Titans outscored Polk State 32-11 to end the contest.
Dominick Nelson led the Eagles with 17 points in the loss.
Ty Owens finished with three of the eight made 3-pointers for Polk State en route to a 13-point afternoon.
Derrick Jones Jr. added 10 points in the defeat.
With the loss, the Eagles have now dropped six of their last seven Citrus Conference games as they begin the second half of the conference schedule and go for the season sweep of Miami Dade College on Wednesday night. The Eagles won the conference opener over the Sharks in Winter Haven on Jan. 6 by a score of 86-79. Wednesday's contest in Miami is scheduled for 7 p.m.
